CSI Los Angeles Chapter

Certification

Among the most important offerings of CSI is its certification program. This year, Construction Document Technologist (CDT) has been elevated to a full certification, giving it equal status with Certified Construction Contract Administrator (CCCA), Certified Construction Specifier (CCS), and Certified Construction Product Representative (CCPR). Achieving CDT is no longer a prerequisite for moving on to CCCA, CCS, or CCPR. However, attaining the CDT reduces the professional experience requirement to take the other exams from 5 years to 2 years.

LACSI will again be presenting classes to help CDT, CCCA, CCS, and CCPR candidates gain the knowledge needed to pass the 2020 CSI certification exams. CDT classes will be held in person at DLR’s downtown Los Angeles office, on eight successive Saturday mornings starting in late January/early February, in preparation for the spring CDT exams (April 15 to May 24). LACSI will conduct CCCA, CCS, and CCPR classes online beginning in early September, in preparation for the fall exams (from October 14 to November 22). CDT exams will also be held in the fall, but LACSI will not offer classes in preparation for the fall exams.

CSI’s Project Delivery Practice Guide(PDPG) is the foundational study guide for all four certification exams—CDT, CCS, CCCA, and CCPR. CSI’s exam preparation classes help you focus your studies of the PDPG and create opportunities for discussion and sharing of ideas with experienced instructors and other exam candidates.

CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS TECHNOLOGIST (CDT)

Instructors: (TBD)
CDT certification expands your knowledge of contractual relationships, the use of construction documents, and the construction process. The LACSI CDT class curriculum is a rigorous and comprehensive course of study designed to help candidates pass the CDT exam and become a certified Construction Documents Technologist. Using CSI’s Project Delivery Practice Guide, and the AIA and EJCDC Standard General Conditions and Contracts, you will learn the project phases, documents produced in each phase, and relationships and responsibilities of project participants. CDT certification will make you a more confident and effective member of your project team, and you can add “CDT” after your name.

CERTIFIED CONSTRUCTION SPECIFIER (CCS)

Instructors: (TBD)
The CCS program builds on your knowledge and experience in preparing construction documents. The course topics include “Construction Contract Types,” “Standard Agreements,” “Conditions Of The Contract,” “Changes In The Work,” “Division 01 General Requirements,” “Bidding Documents,” “Document Organization,” and “Specifying Techniques And Applications.” Well-written specifications are the best insurance against problems during construction, making the specifier a critical role on the project team. As a Certified Construction Specifier, you will offer the assurance of excellence in preparation of Specifications and other Contract Documents. In addition to the PDPG, participants are encouraged to use CSI’s Construction Specifications Practice Guide.

CERTIFIED CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT ADMINISTRATOR (CCCA)

Instructor: (TBD)
The CCCA program guides you through the complexities of modern construction, developing your skills and understanding in the following areas: “Project Delivery Systems,” “Roles And Relationships,” “Preconstruction Activities,” “Submittals,” “Meetings,” “Construction Observation,” “Document Interpretation,” “Schedules,” “Claims And Disputes,” “Modifications,” “Payments,” “QA/QC,” and “Project Closeout.” As a Certified Construction Contract Administrator, you will demonstrate to the industry that you understand the construction process, and are a skilled administrator in a time of complex projects, tight delivery schedules, and shrinking budgets. In addition to the PDPG, participants are encouraged to use CSI’s Construction Contract Administration Practice Guide.

CERTIFIED CONSTRUCTION PRODUCT REPRESENTATIVE (CCPR)

Instructors: (TBD)
The CCPR program gives product representatives an in-depth understanding of the overall design and construction process, including the ability to communicate more effectively with other members of the project team. Topics include “Principles of Effective Product Representation,” “Marketing and Product Information,” “Preparation of Construction Documents,” “Specification Techniques,” “Division 01 Concepts,” “Bidding and Substitutions,” “Warranties and Guarantees,” and “Construction Activities.” As a Certified Construction Product Representative, you will be sought out as an industry expert and be a vital source of technical information. In addition to the PDPG, participants are encouraged to use CSI’s Construction Product Representation Practice Guide.
