The recent decision against SOM in the Bay Area high-rise condominium project will potentially bring the Architects and Design Professionals to the construction defect table with increased frequency. constructive thoughts

Spock as a Specifier – In our never-ending search for truth in specifications, we often lose sight of reality. We’re inundated with advertising, product data, test reports, and white papers; where once specifiers complained about a lack of information, we now struggle to keep up with what we receive. The Race Underground: Boston, New York and the Incredible Rivalry That Built America’s First Subway – Author Doug Most’s book isn’t so much about a race as much as it is a chronicle of the rivalries between the men involved. What Architects Can Learn from the Beatles

by Bill Schmalz, CSI, CCCA, FAIA

On April 10, 1970, Paul McCartney publicly announced he was leaving the Beatles, effectively ending the group [1]. On that day, he and George Harrison were 27 years old, while John Lennon and Ringo Starr were 29 years old [2]. I mention this because it means that everything the Beatles accomplished as a group, including writing and recording many of the best rock songs ever, revolutionizing the popular music industry, and to at least some extent changing history, was done by people who were not yet 30 years old.
